Master's Message - January 2020

It's January 2020, so welcome to a new decade my fellow Brothers of Ocean Lodge #89, or as some of us like to call it: The Island of Misfit Toys.  We all brought something to the table at Lodge, and working together we made each other stronger and our Lodge strong.  It was our synergy that came together, and the whole became greater than the sum of the parts.  I am honored by the trust that you, my Brothers have placed in me by electing me as Worshipful Master.  When I think of Freemasonry, I don't view it as history, something from the past, or even about the present.  I see Freemasonry as an agency for the future.  Now it is time to get to work and set the standards for the 2020's, and for the future for our Lodge and for Freemasonry.

We work as Freemasons to be a part of something bigger.  Freemasonry is pathway for self-investigation, improvement, and acceptance.  It never gives up on you because it becomes you.  It is one and the same.  freemasonry is universal.  What we experience as Freemasons is priceless.  We are a fraternal organization that focuses on building character.  A place men who meet to gain lifelong friends and who have a goal in making the world a better place.  Freemasonry is a way of life at Ocean #89!

Being Worshipful Master is not about being in charge.  It is about taking care of the people in your charge.  I know the Brothers of Ocean Lodge, and I am excited of all the great things we can accomplish together.  Freemasonry is a life structure for those that want to see the light.  Dreams and visions don't work unless you do some work.  I think that every time a Brother neglects his work, Hiram gets buried again.  We're not meant to do the job alone, we do the work together as Brothers.

Few organizations can boast such a distinguished legacy as ours, reaching back so many hundreds of years into the unknowable past, and so we can all be justly proud of how the Craft has so successfully adapted through the ages, while never renouncing our foundational principles or time honored values.

Freemasonry allows you to find your life's purpose, and places you in a place where you will find others who share your goals.  Over the years we have truly come to care for each other, and look forward to serving our local community as Masonic Brothers.  We are ready to get to work in 2020 as Freemasons and help make the world a better place by doing the noble work that Masons do, and having fun while we do it.  My Vision for Ocean Lodge #89 is that we are a Band of Brothers, that will represent our Lodge, Ocean #89.  We will be a Beacon of Light for all of Freemasonry, and make the world better place because of the work that we do.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Andrew Christopher

Worshipful Master

Charitable Donations in memory of Asbury Jordan Lodge No. 142

Ocean Lodge No. 89 donates approximately $500,000 to various local charities in memory of Asbury Jordan Lodge No 142. In 2012 Asbury Jordan Lodge, formerly of Neptune Township, merged with Ocean Lodge of Spring Lake Heights. Under the leadership of Past Master's Adam Reich and John Fudge the two lodges became one under Ocean Lodge No. 89. The resulting merger provided an influx of assets from the sale of Asbury Jordan's lodge building and in the Spirit of Freemason's everywhere it was agreed that the best use of those assets were to give back to our communities through charitable donations.

The following charities are beneficiaries of these donations: the Danny Regan Foundation, K. Hovanian Children's Hospital, the Monmouth County Child Advocacy Center, the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Troopers Assisting Troopers, the New Jersey Masonic Home, the Scottish Rite Children's Dyslexia Center, and Masonic organizations like the Shriner's Hospital for Children, the Tall Cedars and the York Rite.
